Balfour Beatty starts work at Queen Elizabeth hospital
09Jul
Balfour Beatty Engineering Services (BBES) has started works on the £3.1m building services at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead.
The new pathology facility will be located on the site of the former laundry building and includes refurbishment of the existing building and part new build. The new building will house a pathology ‘centre for excellence’, with a laboratory to cover a variety of testing and a ‘hot lab’ for immediate results.
BBES is providing mechanical and electrical services, some of which include low voltage power distribution and uninterruptable power supply, fire alarm, security, heating, domestics and air conditioning systems. BBES will also provide specialist autoclave, cold room, DI water and pneumatic tube installations.
The project is due for completion in November 2013 with client fit out to follow. BBES is working in partnership with Miller, DSSR, Ryder and WSP under a P21+ framework.
BBES has a longstanding relationship with Miller Construction, working with them on South Trafford College and Pontio Arts and Innovation Centre, Bangor.
