Clean power breakthrough

Making both scientific and mainstream news just before Christmas 2022 was the announcement, on 13 December, that scientists in the US had successfully conducted the first controlled experiment in history to achieve fusion ignition, paving the way for almost unlimited clean energy.
Notwithstanding the gap between research and commercialisation, this breakthrough has huge ramifications, and serendipitously comes at a time when energy cost issues have rarely been so prominent.
