Designing electrical panels has become increasingly complex and demanding for panel builders. With challenges like decreasing energy consumption and solution size – coupled with increasing productivity – integrating reliable terminal blocks into the panel design is essential. With the right terminal block solution, panel builders can increase the safety and functionality of their panel designs.

TE Connectivity has broken down the terminal block selection process into four key factors panel builders should consider when investing in any terminal block solution.

1. Customisation

Customisation of terminal block solutions is essential, especially considering the vast array of application uses and industry trends toward miniaturisation. Stackable solutions allow builders to combine terminal block parts on top of one another. This creates additional positions without taking up additional space, meeting demands for miniaturisation.

Beyond stackability, it is important to consider modularity. Terminal blocks that utilise modular designs with interlocking capabilities allow for high levels of customisation. This means different parts can be joined together to create a wide range of combinations and positions, helping panel builders meet complex design requirements.

2. Identification

Labelling terminal blocks is non-negotiable for the success of an electrical system. When there are many wires in one application – as is common with modular and stackable solutions – the number of wires in a small space quickly adds up.

Look for terminal blocks that utilise colour-coding options. This allows installers to determine quickly if they are making the right connection, streamlining organisation and saving time.
