One particular Nobel prize winner jumped out this year, and that was the prize for Physics, which was awarded to Alain Aspect, John Clauser and Anton Zeilinger, who each conducted groundbreaking experiments using entangled quantum states, where two particles of light become inextricably linked, and behave like a single unit, even when they are separated.
Daring, for one minute, to project this concept onto an industrial manufacturing setting, one wonders what possible applications could evolve from this discovery? Many companies are already well advanced on their Industry 4.0 journeys, for example, where the basic concepts of hyperconnectivity can lead to a future that’s full of improved efficiencies, increased productivity, more agile supply chain, better response to changing market conditions and customer demands, and reduced emissions.
