As part of its insight poll, WAGO also discovered that of the panel builders preferring to use screw-clamp DIN Rail mounted terminals, only a small percentage (8%) said they use a torque screwdriver in line with the manufacturer’s recommended instructions. The vast majority (64%) use a standard screwdriver which can not only lead to inconsistent wire connection performance but also invalidates the manufacturer’s warranty if anything goes wrong. Virtually one in four (24%) panel builders have had to return to fix a problem due to inconsistent wire connection. Therefore, when questioned about their preferences for using screw-clamp DIN Rail mounted terminals, 28% said they have always used them yet, only 4% rely on traditional screw connection as a quick and easy solution. However, more than half (52%) said they have used screwless terminals, with 44% doing so because it helps save time. In addition, 40% believe screwless terminals provide more reliable connections, calling out being maintenance-free (40%) and resistance to vibration (48%) as the key benefits.Vince Pioli, Digital and Marketing Director from WAGO, comments: “We undertook this insight poll to better understand attitudes and behaviours of panel builders towards screw-clamp and screwless terminal blocks. It’s clear that, despite many panel builders experiencing loose connections and the knock-on recalls on panels, many are still using screw-clamp terminal blocks.“However, we’d encourage panel builders to give screwless DIN Rail mounted terminal blocks a go. Not only are they proven to be much quicker and easier to install, they also provide a reliable connection, so panel builders can save time and money from the start of the job.“What’s more, with more than one third of panel builders believing that recruiting and retaining skilled workers is the biggest challenge facing the industry, they can be confident that the simple and easy ‘push-in’ operation of screwless terminal blocks will result in a consistent and secure wire connection every time, regardless of skill.”WAGO is offering free samples of its TOP JOB S terminal blocks so panel builders can experience the benefits of going screwless.
